Aaron Stanford Starring in Syfy's 12 Monkeys Pilot
Stanford discussed some big reveals about BIrkhoff, fan interaction and more. Plus, with X-Men: Days of Future Past coming, I asked Stanford if he thought he might play his X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand up function of Pyro again at some signal. IGN TV: How do you lot feel about the six episode order and having such a concentrated storyline for Nikita this year?Aaron Stanford: Y'all know, I was actually pretty excited well-nigh it. I know a lot of the fans were disappointed. They wanted at least 13 episodes. That could take been not bad as well, just when I heard half dozen episodes, I immediately thought that this was an opportunity to tell a really, actually tightly woven story. They've kind of taken a bit of a suspension from it in Season four, and they're focusing on other stuff. I think they're just letting y'all assume that all is well with Birkhoff and Sonya. Stanford: It'due south a good death, I'll tell y'all that much. It's a good death. When I read information technology, I said, "If you have to leave, that's a bang-up mode to do it." IGN: Birkhoff'southward capable guy. He was a Division agent, so we saw that he wasn't but going to cower in a fight situation. Have yous liked getting to explore that without just turning him into a guy who's suddenly a ninja?
Stanford: That was a lot of fun, and we definitely wanted to make sure that we stayed inside the rules that we had established for our reality and Birkhoff's reality. Like y'all said, we didn't desire to suddenly have Birkhoff busting out Jackie Chan moves, you lot know what I mean? He is very much involved in this world of espionage, and at a certain bespeak, I recall information technology was Season ii, where he really got into it, where he had to decide if he was going to straddle the contend or truly get involved in this stuff. IGN: When you guys go to something like Comic-Con and interact with the fans, what's it like to meet that obviously this evidence, while not a huge one in the ratings, has a fanbase that loves it so much and is so invested in it?
Stanford: It's great. We're very enlightened of that, because with social media now, people are on Twitter, and you just become constant positive feedback and tons of love. The amazing thing is that it's from everywhere in the world that you can think of. It's from every continent, country, city in the world that you can imagine. So that'south been very squeamish. It'due south always nice to know that your work isn't falling on deaf ears and at that place are people who are getting some enjoyment out of it. Comic-Con is fantastic, considering yous can come face to face with them. Yeah, I've had a dandy time the final 2 years I went. IGN: What do y'all think it is about Birkhoff that's struck a chord with the fans? They really feel protective of him and invested in him.
Stanford: Peculiarly at Comic-Con, in that location'due south a lot of geeks there, then Birkhoff is them. He's their manner in. He's kind of that for the series in general. He's very much human being. He'southward a bit more fragile than Michael or Nikita. He's not as ideal, and he's non equally perfect. He has a lot of flaws, and he'southward had a lot of personality bug he's had to overcome. He's consumed by self-involvement a lot of the time, and he does experience cowardice. These are all existent things that people experience. He is the real person'southward way into the prove.
IGN: Lastly, veering in a different management, I'm a large X-Men fan. Now every bit far as I know you're not in Days of Future Past.
Stanford: I'm not, no.
IGN: Just that movie's existence is interesting in that that franchise went in a very different direction, merely now things have circled back. Practise you feel similar, whereas a couple years ago it seemed like it might not be a possibility, you might be Pyro again at some point?
Stanford: I thought it was really amazing, yeah, when I heard that Bryan Vocalizer was gonna direct some other one. I was very excited most that because I had a groovy experience with him on X-Men 2. I thought he did a fantastic job with it. So I was excited almost that, and and then to hear that so many of the old cast members were going back, information technology was a huge surprise. I didn't expect it at all. I would accept loved to have been a part of this one. It would have been bully, and I would have loved to have seen all my friends again, just who knows? There might exist another moving picture after this, and perhaps they'll bring out some more one-time characters - they'll get a risk.
